Buy.com is Less than Expected
Posted on (05/22/2008)The other day I took it upon myself to after a deal for an item that I’ve been wanting for a while: an external hard drive. The deal was available exclusively online, by no other than Buy.com.
The item was a Memorex 120GB Ultra TravelDrive External Hard Drive at the rock-bottom price of $49.99 with free shipping. I’ve been wanting an external hard drive for a year or so now for back-up, as I’ve been using flash drives to back-up most of my files but the space limitation just didn’t cut it (although my flash drive is a whopping 16GB, I felt the need for an external hard drive to back-up music, media, and system settings).
I immediately purchased the item from Buy.com and paid the $49.99 on May 12th. The free shipping was to take 3-9 days, as stated on the website.
On May 18th, I still have not received my item. It typically takes 3-5 days for packages to arrive from big companies like Buy.com to me, so I logged in to check my item’s status. To my surprise, the order was still as “sent to warehouse” status as it was right after I paid! I was furious, because this meant that Buy.com is selling items that they don’t have in stock.
I emailed customer support right after this demanding a refund because I was sick of waiting. Customer service replied the next day stating that my “order has been shipped out”. Today, May 20th, I received the external hard drive.
Although I am happy with my purchase I am not happy with Buy.com and their extreme delay with shipping out my item. If the item was not in stock, then they shouldn’t sell it like it is in stock.
Overall, Buy.com is less than what I expected, and I am not so sure if I want to purchase from them again. Sellers from eBay and small online e-business ship out faster than Buy.com, from my experience.
